The Equality Act and the Contraction of Religious and Civil Liberty

  • 07 Nov 2019
  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • Belo Mansion

Although proposed as an "amendment" to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and billed as an extension of civil rights, the proposed "Equality Act" would, on balance, significantly contract Americans' religious and civil liberty, both by the express partial repeal of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and by the expected implications of the proposal.

David Upham will speak about the proposed Equality Act. Dr. Upham is Associate Professor and Chair of Politics, as well as the Director of Legal Studies, at the University of Dallas. He has also worked as Of Counsel at Fanning Harper Martinson Brandt & Kutchin, P.C., and Associate Attorney at Jones Day in Dallas.

CLE credit is pending.
